NHS PHARAMACY FIRST PLUS SCOTLAND
This service is an extension to NHS Pharmacy First Scotland service. It allows patients to access Pharmacist Independent Prescriber advice, treatment, and referral in the pharmacy. This is an NHS service, free to the patient.
It utilises Pharmacist Independent Prescribers advanced consultation, and common clinical conditions skills together to assess and manage acute conditions in the pharmacy, on a walk-in basis, rather than having to make an appointment at another healthcare setting e.g. GP.
This service is not available in every community pharmacy. The pharmacist providing the service must be a qualified Pharmacist Independent Prescriber. Davidsons Chemist are proud to have many of our pharmacists qualified as prescribers.
If you have an acute common clinical condition that can not be dealt with under the standard NHS Pharmacy First Scotland service – rather than be referred to another healthcare setting – our team may suggest a consultation with our inhouse Pharmacist Independent Prescriber.
Our pharmacist will assess your symptoms and suggest a course of action and treatment. The conditions each of our prescribers can consult on varies between individuals, but our teams will be aware of when referral to the pharmacist is appropriate.
So, what is an independent prescriber?
A highly specialised pharmacist practitioner that has undergone additional training in clinical assessment and prescribing. Within their clinical competence, they can assess your health, diagnose and make decisions about how to manage your condition, including prescribing medication.
