Charity Partnership 2019 – Final Total

At the beginning of 2019 MND Scotland won our public vote to become our Charity of the Year with 2,125 votes. As 2020 has rolled round we are absolutely thrilled to announce our final total after fundraising throughout 2019 for this fantatic charity.

As a team Davidsons Chemists and McPherson Pharmacy (our sister company) have managed to raise an incredible £22,158.05 for MND Scorland, far exceeding our original expectations. Davidsons Chemists have been supporting a charity every year for the past 6 years and this is our largest total EVER! After corresponding with MND Scotland we can really see how much this large amount of money can do for them.

So, how did out tenacious staff raise this incredable amount of money? Let us tell you what some of our branches have been up to.

Book Sales & Book Swaps

Book sales and book swaps were very popular this year for fundraising for our chosen charity. Our teams in Drymen, Thornton, Scone, Stanley, Aboyne, Pitlochry and Aberdeen set up small book corners within their branches which allowed our patients and customers browse the books whilst visiting. This was a great fundraising technique which our customers and patients appreciated, especially in the more rural communities.

The Great Davidsons Bake Sales

Giving Mary Berry a run for her money was our teams in Ladybank, Forfar, Brechin, Thornton, Friockheim, Killin and McPherson Pharmacy. Bake sales are always popular amongst our regular patients and customers. Nothing beats some home baked cakes in the name of charity!

Raffles & Guessing Games

Our branches in Scone, Friockheim, Ladybank and Thornton organised raffles in aid off MND Scotland over the course of 2019 which included Easter and rugby world cup themes!

Some branches also hosted guessing game including Guess the Bunny’s name and guess how many sweeties are in the jar. These branches included Banchory, McPhersons and Ballater.

Getting Crafty

As it drew closer to Christmas our Banchory branch made up and sold hot chocolate reindeer cones – a perfect winter treat.

Nicolle’s, from our Ladybank branch, Mum designed some beautiful handmade gifts to be sold in the branch to raise funds for the charity.

During the spring our Elie branch sold some tomato plants to rais funds – something a little different but effective!

Abseiling the Fourth Rail Bridge

The bad weather never stopped Amanda and Nicolle from our Ladybank branch abseiling from the side of the Fourth Rail Bridge in the name of charity! Together the girls raised £1,027.13 for MND from this scary challenge.

Sponsored Walks

Marina McFarlane, our Retail and Customer Service Support Officer, from Head Office challenged herself to a 55 mile trek in the aid of MND Scotland and in memory of former Davidsons Pharmacist, Kath. To read more about Marina story you can visit MND Scotland’s website here. An absolute immense effort of an incredible charity!

Gillian, from our Dunkeld branch and a few of her supportive pals challenged themselves to a sponsored walk from Aberfeldy to Dunkeld – a fantastic day had by all involved.

A fair few of our branches got involved with the various Kiltwalks taking place throughout 2019. These included the McPhersons team, our Killin team, Clare from our Drymen branch, Laura from our Bridge of Earn branch and Emma from our Thornton branch who completed two!

Quiz Nights

Brechin, Killin and McPhersons all hosted successful quiz nights. Quiz nights are always a hit with staffs friends and family as well as the local community.

Motor Neuron Disease is a disease which has affected many of our staff’s lives here at Davidsons. With this in mind, we are extremely happy that 2019 has been our most successful fundraising total to date, and what a year it has been.

We would like to thank each and every individual who either took part in, sponsored or donated in any of our pharmacies. We would like to thank our staff who have put in an huge amount of effort into fundraising for this invaluable charity, but also thank you to our patients and customers who have been great in supporting our staff’s fundraising efforts and kindly donating!

We would also like to say a very special thanks to Morag McGown, Corporate Partnerships Manager, at MND Scotland for continued assistance and support throughout the year. We would also like to take this opportunity to thanks MND Scotland as an organisation for their invaluable care and support that they provide to people who have been affected by Motor Neuron Disease as well as funding vital research into finding a cure.

We are continuing to look forward to 2020 and working with our new Charity of the Year Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland and hope to have another successful year of fundraising.
